Together with three classmates, we designed Neighbourhood Nest.
The assignment was to come up with a solution to the housing problem, which affects everyone — especially students and status holders (refugees with residence permits). Because of issues like limited space and climate change, we immediately came up with the idea of building floating houses.
We also discovered that social connections are very important for these groups, but so is having a safe, courtyard-like environment. Combining these needs led us to this design, which encourages communal living while still giving people the space to withdraw from the hustle and bustle when they need to.
For this project, we received technical advice from John Kusters, who helped us with the more practical aspects of the design.
